Abstract: The study utilizes cross-sectional data obtained from 96 maize farmers to examine the factors that determine the use of compost in Savelugu-Nanton District of the Northern Region of Ghana. The results show that the use of compost in the study area is influenced by gender, farmers’ ability to participate in capacity building workshops and experience regarding the use of compost. It is recommended that female farmers should be empowered with bicycles while both male and female farmers be supported to form co-operatives groups for knowledge and experience sharing in compost application. The Extension Units of the District Agricultural Development Unit (DADU) of the Region should also support the two local NGOs working to promote compost use in the District.
