The study seeks to investigate the management gaps that exist in the University for Development studies and to suggest best practices for effectively managing the institution. It is in the light of this that some thematic areas were identified. The study therefore gathered information concerning some of the challenges facing the various departments, sections and units and suggest some best management strategies from ten thematic areas. The study used the qualitative research design to gather the data. Heads of the various departments, sections and units were interviewed. A number of critical issues emanated from the study however, one major visible finding was that though, every staff was employed based on some special skills, but some of them have not been placed at their specialized areas where they can operate without or with little supervision thereby making them “square pegs in round holes”. It is therefore, recommended that, the University Management Team should develop a “talent Profile” where Management could identify staff with some special skills and place them at the right places where their expertise can be tapped.en_US
