Abstract: This paper discusses the importance of motivation. It points out that heads of sections should take interest in motivating their subordinates, for this influences their performance and organizational effectiveness. The paper then gives a short review of the administrative structure of the University of Cape Coast Library. The main focus is the presentation of empirical data which were gathered by means of a questionnaire, relating to the motivation and productivity of library assistants at the University of Cape Coast Library. It also goes on to give suggestions aimed at improving the productivity of staff.
