Abstract: This study explores linkages between inter-ethnic conflicts and socio-economic development of the people in Nanung. The study examines the impacts of inter-ethnic conflicts on socio-economic development of the people, It does so by investigating the effects of the Konkomba and Nanumba conflicts on: inter-ethnic relations, social capital, livelihoods of the people, as well as on health and education of the people. The study adopted and applied the economic theory of conflict to the case of the Konkomba and Nanumba conflicts. It made use of historical documents, questionnaires, interviews. focused group discussions and observations to obtain the necessary data to analyze and establish the impact of violent inter-ethnic conflicts on the socio-economic; development of the people in the area. The study revealed that, the inter-ethnic conflicts have led to the loss of life and property as well as displacement of persons. It has created severe inter-ethnic relations, weakened social capital, precipitated social tension, created insecurity, discouraged investment in productive ventures and negatively affected the livelihoods of the people. The conflicts have also adversely affected the delivery of health and education in Nanung. In conclusion. the conflicts have negatively affected the socio-economic development or Naming, In seeking to transform the conflict therefore, combinations of several factors are needed, These includes, addressing the unequal social relationships making efforts towards effective integration of the various ethnic groups, building effective qualitative relationships among the various. ethnic groups, promote equal access of all ethnic groups to the socio-economic opportunities in Nanung, and encouraging investment in productive sector to create job opportunities for the youth.
