Abstract: The purpose of the study was about the implications of the Wa chieftaincy conflict on the socio-economic development of the Wa municipality . The specific objectives of the study were to find out what resources are spent on chieftaincy conflicts and how that affects development , whether changes in social , economic and political fortunes of people influence them to desire to be chiefs even though they may not be of royal decent , how applicants to the vacant chieftaincy positions justify their claims , whether there are customs , rules and procedures that guide the settlement of chieftaincy conflicts as well as whether there exists policy to facilitate the resolution of chieftaincy conflicts in Ghana. The researcher did a review of literature in the area of conflicts . The review of related literature focused on theoretical and conceptual framework as well as other works relevant to this research . For the purpose of collecting data for this research , questionnaires , interviews and focus group discussions were used . Both quantitative and qualitative approaches of data analysis were used in analyzing the data collected . The main finding is that Wa chieftaincy conflict retarded the SOCIO- economic development of the Wa municipality . The study recommends that there should be an effective link and collaboration between the various royal gates to the Wa skin so as to build the capacity of traditional leaders to participate meaningfully in promoting and maintaining peace in the municipality for socio- economic development could take place .
